On Saturday 2 May, Sydney Film Festival will present a screening of the hit British feature X+Y at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre. The film is the Festival’s fourth monthly screening in Western Sydney.
X+Y is a moving romantic drama about a teenage maths prodigy whose world is rocked by a fellow ‘mathlete’ at an international competition. Starring Asa Butterfield, the young lead in Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, as a brilliant maths whiz kid, and Jo Yang as his beautiful counterpart, competitor and love interest from China.
This family-friendly film is inspired by director Morgan Matthews’s 2007 documentary Beautiful Young Minds.
“The film is a wonderfully intelligent and captivating story that explores important issues, including education and disability,” says Festival Director Nashen Moodley.
“X+Y is the perfect treat for a Saturday at the Casula Powerhouse—a terrific film for both young and old that inspires as much as it entertains,” says Director of Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre Kiersten Fishburn. “We are excited to be providing audiences in South-Western Sydney with a first-rate film that will make them laugh, cry and wonder.”
