Darkness is a 20-minute short film that explores the concept of the shadow – the darkest part of every human being that has been repressed. On a rural farm, a lonely girl named Eva discovers a young boy being held captive and tortured in a neighbouring farm’s barn. She forms a friendship with him, and plots to free him, but first she must face the evil farmer Mr Welch, as well as her own dark desires.
Experienced filmmakers will shoot the short over five days in rural NSW. At this stage, the film is funded out of our own pockets. I’m looking for passionate professionals who want the opportunity to create something powerful despite the lack of funds to pay full award rates.
Main roles will be paid half-award rates and the success of this film will rely on a semi-volunteer crew. All food, transport and accommodation will be paid and I can guarantee all cast and crew will be well looked after – if you want a Mars Bar at 3pm or a more comfortable pillow, it will be arranged.
The film contains a thrilling chase through a battery hen shed and the violent castration of the farmer by Eva. However ultimately it is a powerful story about a bad little girl’s chance to be good. This is fantastic opportunity to be involved in a film which will rattle a few cages, move an audience emotionally and start a conversion.
