Screening at the 2015 Sydney Film Festival are 72 documentaries from 32 countries—a broad representation of all that’s on trend in the documentary filmmaking world.
US documentarian Alex Gibney—a Festival guest with two films in the program this year—has tackled numerous controversial subjects from America’s treatment of Guantanamo Bay prisoners in Taxi to the Dark Side and political corruption whistleblowers in We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks to Catholic Church-based paedophilia in Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God. This year he takes on the Church of Scientology with Going Clear: Scientology And The Prison Of Belief and Mr Dynamite: The Rise of James Brown.
