FilmInk will be hosting a special screening of the sci-fi thriller Infini at The Ritz Cinema in Randwick on Thursday 7 May at 8.30pm. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session featuring writer/director Shane Abbess, and actors Daniel MacPherson, Luke Ford and Grace Huang.
This event will launch FilmInk Presents, a new program formed in partnership with The Randwick Ritz, aimed at bringing movie lovers advance and often exclusive screenings of films accompanied by Q&A sessions and other special events.
Set in the dark reaches of space, Infini is the story of an elite search and rescue team transported to a distant mining station to save the lone survivor of a freak accident. Using slipstream technology, the team must transport into a hostile environment and quarantine a lethal biological weapon, which is headed toward Earth.
The film marks the anticipated second feature film for Shane Abbess, who made a mark at home and internationally with his ambitious 2007 fantasy action debut Gabriel. This lead the Australian filmmaker to Hollywood where he developed the feature film Source Code before negotiations broke down.
“It took me a a few years to understand Hollywood,” said Shane. “To understand what is said and what is meant, what a meeting really meant when you walked out of it, and the power that actors have. It took me two-and-a-half years to learn the business.”
Given Abbess’ industry experience, the post-screening Q&A is sure to drum up interesting discussion for those interested in what it takes to navigate the Hollywood system. The cast will also have much to spill on the challenges involved in crafting an Australian sci-fi movie on a budget, as well as the thought-provoking ideas contained within the film itself.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here.
