Indie Gems Film Festival 2013

By June 6, 2013 Events

The fourth annual Indie Gems Festival is back in 2013 bigger and brighter than ever. Once again we have a huge array of Australian and international independent cinema to excite, inspire and entertain you.

Indie Gems showcases and celebrates independent work and creativity with exciting screenings, informative workshops and film networking events. Indie Gems seeks to highlight and showcase emerging filmmakers around the world with a spotlight on Western Sydney.

Opening Night (Thursday 12 Sept) kicks off with the Sydney premiere of Pharaoh Vs The Egyptians, a powerful and revealing documentary by Australian comedian Akmal Saleh. Born in Egypt, Akmal returns to the country to explore how the people were able to overthrow a dictator in rule for over thirty years.

On Saturday (14 Sept), join us for Gossip Nation – the first Nollywood (Nigerian Cinema) film made in Australia! Gossip Nation follows the conflicts and dramas of a community of African immigrants and refugees that have settled in Blacktown, Sydney. Among them is Kemi, an unemployed Nigerian teen girl who loves to gossip. But when her gossip starts to weave its way through the community, Kemi learns that a few words can wreak havoc and turn her friends and family against each other forever.

Tickets are now on sale through Riverside Theatres, Parramatta. It’s sure to be a sell out so grab your tickets now!

This project has been supported by Parramatta City Council’s Community Grants Program.
