Jurassic Lounge has been nominated in the Sydney’s Music, Arts & Culture Awards [aka the SMACs], in the Remix The City category. This is recognition for the amazing work done by the volunteers at Jurassic Lounge in 2011. This crazy, risky experiment set out to prove that Sydney could handle a bit of culture with its after-work drinks, and was open to artists & residents investing respected institutions with new creative energy. Over two seasons in 2011, Jurassic Lounge has taken over the Australian Museum after-hours with music, art, film and new ideas. Drink in hand, over 1,000 visitors each night roamed the spectacular spaces within the Museum at their own leisurely pace. As the sun set on Hyde Park, each room came alive with something unexpected against a dramatic backdrop of dinosaur skeletons, precious gemstones and native animals. Each week a new line-up of Sydney’s best emerging talent rocked the Museum, including a silent disco, live bands, VJs, stand-up comedy, slam poetry, live graffiti, magicians, body painting, cabaret, contemporary dance, live tattooing, interactive video games, karaoke, snake handling, expert talks, tarot readings, photo booths, drag performance, film projections, torchlight tours, burlesque shows, puppet theatre, zine-making workshop, vintage games, specimen tables, interactive video installations and more!
Jurassic Lounge will be back in 2012!
