107 Projects and Kino Sydney celebrates their 100th screening on Saturday 14 November—looking back at over 1000 local short films screened—and looking ahead at all the creativity still to come.
Kino Sydney is Sydney’s only monthly ‘open-mic’ film night that aims to foster an inclusive local short cinema community of filmmakers and film lovers. Since 2013, Redfern’s cultural hub 107 Projects has been host to the Kino Sydney community coming together on the first Monday of every month.
Established in 2006, Kino Sydney has become a mainstay in the Sydney film scene for local filmmakers looking to experiment in their storytelling and hone their craft. Over the last nine years, it has fostered creative collaborations and unique talent that has gone on to excel in the local and international film industry.
Kino Sydney is one of three Australian cells of the international movement Kino. Launched in 1999 in Montreal, Kino is driven by a spirit of collaboration, fun and a ‘do it now’ attitude. Kino has since spread around the world, with more than 150 local cells, connecting every populated continent.
