By December 12, 2013 Events

With summer holidays just around the corner, the third annual Little Darlings Night Owls Kids Film Fest hits the big screen at Darling Quarter from  10th to 23rd January 2014. From the freshest new kids flicks to classic cinema moments, the festival offers not only a cracking outing for the little ones, but also a dazzling trip down memory lane for the adults and all for free! The festival kicks off showcasing the musical adventure-comedy Rio, with the wonders of modern animation guaranteed to impress in Despicable Me 2, Brave, Up, Epic and Hugo. House favourites Marry Poppins (1964), Pinocchio (1940) and 101 Dalmations (1961) will continue the family fun and thrills, proving to stand the test of time after over 50 years since their creation.

From 5.30pm onwards each night there will be a vibrant mix of live entertainment for the youngsters, including performances from Lah Lah’s Big Live Band on Opening Night and a special kids theatre performance by Monkey Baa on Closing Night. Following the off-screen entertainment, a stream of short films from Australia’s major children’s short film festival Little Big Shots, all before the Night Owl’s feature film. The unique 15-minute program of films from Little Big Shots – some of which have been produced by children – will include some of the best local and international short films, animations and documentaries. And for the big kids among us, classic films will be splashed across the outdoor screen every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night during special after-hours screenings from 8.30pm onwards. The romantics won’t want to miss Baz Luhrmann’s epic Romeo & Juliet on opening night, while others will be awed by Life of Pi and Dead Poets Society. Also in the mix is hilarious Australian comedy and award-winner Muriel’s Wedding sure to have viewers struggling to control their giggles.

With 14 special sessions to choose from, there are plenty of opportunities to revel in the sweetness of beautiful summer evenings amongst good company, delicious food and great entertainment. Pack your own picnic or give Mum a night out of the kitchen and be tempted by one of the delicious dining options at Darling Quarter. Share a pizza from Vesta the Italian or go Eastern with a bento box from Umi Sushi, there are feasts for every taste!

Night Owls kids t-shits are also up for grabs every night, so be sure to get in early and catch that worm!
