Sparked by a Raw Nerve funding opportunity, Breaks filmmakers Kerinne Jenkins (Director), Harry Windsor (Writer) and Nic Douglas (Producer) conceived Long Lost, a short film inspired by the true story of a French soldier who returned from war on the Western Front in 1918, not knowing who he was or where he was from. He was taken to a sanitarium, and shortly after his photograph was placed in the French newspapers. Dozens of families travelled from all over the country to discover if he was their missing father, brother, husband or son.
“We drew inspiration from this tale because we realised it could have happened to anyone, anywhere,” said Harry. “Long Lost is set in Australia in 1919. It explores war’s ability to make the concept of the individual obsolete. We were also interested in tackling that hoary old lie that what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.”
Metro Screen is delighted to report that Long Lost will screen on ABC2 next April to coincide with the centenary of Gallipoli. However, with a pre-booked air date comes a locked in delivery date, and Kerinne, Nic and Harry need our help to bring this important story to life by 31 October 2014.
