Metro Screen Graduate Ali Russell Nominated For A Walkley Award

By November 8, 2010 Congratulations

The nomination is for a story Ali directed, shot and co-produced for ABC1’s ‘Hungry Beast’ called ‘The Gang of 49’: The Gang That Never Was’. Between 2007 and 2010, the South Australian and national media ran more than 200 reports about a gang of 49 Aboriginal youths on a crime spree, terrorising Adelaide with ram-raids, robberies and high speed chases. Thousands of crimes have been attributed to the gang, which South Australian Attorney General Michael Atkinson called “pure evil”. And yet the gang never existed. The story was co-produced with Kirk Docker.

The nomination is for ‘Coverage of Indigenous Affairs’ category. You can watch the story here

And Hungry Beast was also just nominated for an AFI in the ‘Best Light Entertainment Television Series’ category [up against Masterchef’]!
