Tickets went on sale today for Moonlight Cinema, Sydney’s favourite outdoor Summer film experience.
Moonlight has revealed a massive 2015/16 season, with the December and January film program announcing advanced screenings of over 15 of the hottest new releases to be seen under the stars before they even hit the cinemas.
A star-studded VIP red carpet advance screening of Suffragette, starring Meryl Streep, Carey Mulligan and Helena Bonham Carter, will officially open the season.
‘J-Law’ fans will not be disappointed with two massive screenings of the final installment of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, and an advanced screening of her latest Oscar contending film Joy. Reuniting with Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro and the director of Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, be prepared for another wild story of Jennifer Lawrence on a one-woman mission, jam packed with her signature dry humour and tenacious on screen performance.
Be first in line to see western thriller The Revenant, which might finally see Leonardo DiCaprio win his first Oscar; as well as Sisters, the latest flick from hilarious comedy queens Amy Poehler and Tina Fey; and Dirty Grandpa, a twisted spring break trip with Zac Efron and Robert De Niro.
For the mini movie buffs, advance screenings include: the latest epic animation adventure The Good Dinosaur from Disney Pixar, as well as everyone’s favourite childhood book franchise turned silver screen smash hit, Goosebumps, starring the monstrously funny Jack Black.
On Australia Day, travel back to 1950s Australia with Kate Winslet as femme fatale Tilly Dunnage in bittersweet drama, The Dressmaker (Tuesday 26 January). Also starring Liam Hemsworth and Hugo Weaving, the film is a journey of love, revenge and haute couture.
Moonlight also has plenty of box office smashes in store: Daniel Craig in the latest Bond blockbuster Spectre is sure to shake (not stir) up crowds; and don’t miss the latest Star Wars saga Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.
John Goodman, Diane Keaton and Olivia Wilde come together in Love the Coopers, playing four generations of the Cooper Clan in a hilarious Christmas celebration sure to outdo even the craziest family reunion.
Cult classic cravers will love the line-up of favourites including Dirty Dancing, Top Gun and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. “Tell me more, tell me more” I hear you say? There’s also a Grease sing-a-long!
As always Moonlight cinema is a BYO-friendly event, but no sweat if you forget your picnic spread and sparkling; Moonlight’s famous LA-style food truck and fully licensed bar will be serving up tasty treats for all appetites.
Audiences can tuck into a scrumptious menu of movie munchies including pulled pork sliders, New Yorker chilli cheese dogs, buffalo fried chicken, parmesan truffle fries and fresh Nutella donuts.
There’s something for absolutely every kind of movie maniac and film fanatic at this season’s Moonlight Cinema. Gates are open an hour and a half before the film starts so grab your mates, snap up your grassy patch and lay back for a summer of fun, food and films under the stars!
