TIBOOBURRA

My Grandmother’s Country screens on SBS on Tuesday 15 September at 6:30pm as part of NITV’s Our Stories, Our Way series.

Lorina Barker (writer/director), Fran Dobbie (producer), Brendan Blacklock (DOP) made this short documentary about Lorina’s grandmother. It’s an Aboriginal woman’s story of her family’s removal from Tibooburra country in 1938 to the Old Brewarrina Mission, their walk-off in 1941, and their journey home.

Our Stories, Our Way is NITV’s landmark series of mini documentaries and digital song-lines produced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander filmmakers from emerging, remote and regional areas.

My Grandmother’s Country was developed and funded by Metro Screen’s 2014 Breaks Program (in association with EarthStar Productions and Screen NSW), and commissioned by NITV.
