The summer holidays are almost here, and with them comes the fifth annual Little Darlings Night Owls Kid’s Film Festival. Perched and ready to nest at Sydney’s Darling Quarter for 17 days in January (Friday 8 – Sunday 24), the Festival pops up beside one of Sydney’s most spectacular playgrounds with more screenings than ever before.

Children and their adult friends will have a hoot in the beautiful surrounds, as they enjoy the Festival’s thrilling open-air cinema absolutely FREE. All you need to do is nab a good spot, relax on a picnic rug, have a little dance with the kids to some live music, and get ready for the movie to start!

From 6.45pm each evening, family-friendly films such as: Disney Pixar’s animation Inside Out; Disney and Marvel creation Big Hero 6; Paddington, featuring Nicole Kidman; and the critically acclaimed Irish folk animation Song of the Sea will have little ones bursting with delight.

Ponyo and Arrietty from Japan’s famous animators: Studio Ghibli, and Australia’s own Paper Planes starring Sam Worthington, will light up the screen; as well as many other hits such as The Book Thief and Minions both featuring Geoffrey Rush; and the star studded Disney musical Into the Woods; alongside Disney’s Maleficent and Muppets Most Wanted.

For the big kids who fancy themselves to be true night owls, 8.30pm after dark screenings across three weekends (Friday through to Sunday) include sci-fi block busters: Guardians of the Galaxy, Tomorrowland, Interstellar and Avatar, as well as critically acclaimed Boyhood (nominated for seven Oscars), and Australian film Satellite starring David Gulpilil.

Ultimate flashback cinema will keep the good times rolling with: As Good as It Gets starring Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt, Good Will Hunting with Matt Damon and Robin Williams, and Audrey Hepburn’s Roman Holiday.

For those not picnicking, there are plenty of delicious food options at Darling Quarter. Treat yourself and the kids to a premium chocolate experience at Belgian Chocolatiers, Guylian, or a traditional Italian gelato from Meno Diciotto.

Little Darlings Night Owls Kid’s Film Fest is a summertime favourite for kids of all ages. Check out the program and start picking the nights to bring the whole gang along, because an outdoor cinema experience that’s totally free is something to enjoy more than just once!
