Parramasala is an international contemporary arts festival that celebrates the global impact of South Asian arts and cultures. Now in its third year, Parramasala 2012 will run from Thursday 8th to Sunday 11th November 2012. The city of Parramatta comes alive for four days with vibrant arts and entertainment including music, dance, theatre, film, visuals arts and comedy from around the world, as well as an authentic South Asian marketplace featuring handicrafts, fashion, arts and crafts and spices. Parramasala is presented in the city’s performing arts centre (Riverside Theatres) and other centrally located venues, including the Town Hall, outdoor stages and special festival sites. Apart from the ticketed programs, the festival includes free concerts and performances, workshops, exhibitions and markets with South Asian food, fashion and handicrafts. The artists and acts presented in Parramasala come from many parts of the world. What they all have is one thing in common, being influenced by aspects of South Asian culture and artistic traditions.
The South Asian Film in Focus program, curated by Metro Screen alumni Ravi Kambhoj, features eight films across three days.
