Riverside Theatres is having a special screening of Jailhouse Rock on 12 November at 10am as part of its classic movies and musicals matinee series. The film is famous for the dance sequence choreographed by Elvis Presley in which he sings the title track while cavorting with the other inmates through a set which resembles a block of jail cells. The sequence is widely acknowledged as the most memorable musical scene in Elvis’s 30 narrative movies, and is credited by music historians as the prototype for the modern music video.
In 2004 Jailhouse Rockwas was selected for preservation by the United States National Film Registry because it was deemed ‘culturally, historically and aesthetically significant’.
