The Sandfly Film Festival showcases the best short films from around the world. The 2014 selection includes 24 films from 17 different countries, chosen for their compelling storytelling and filmmaking excellence. It’s a diverse mix of established award-winners, cutting-edge new comers, dramas, thrillers, documentaries, comedies, animations and music videos.

Now in its fifth year, Sandfly has grown from its Jervis Bay roots to include venues in Sydney and regional NSW, as well as major international venues in New York, Bogota, Berlin and Los Angeles. This year the festival will extend to an exciting new range of Sydney Metropolitan venues.

Sandfly has a strong reputation for discovering smash hits. Before it became internationally renowned and an MTV Award Winner, Gotye’s Somebody That I Used to Know won the Best Music Video Category at Sandfly. In 2013 two films that had their Australian Premieres at Sandfly went on to feature at the Academy Awards: Aquel No Era Yo was nominated for Best Live Action Short, and Mr Hublot won the Oscar for Best Animated Short.

Metro Screen is supporting Sandfly Film Festival once again by sponsoring the coveted ‘Golden Sandfly’, an award presented to the best film.
