Sandfly pops up on Newtown Rooftop. Just when you thought Newtown’s indie entertainment scene couldn’t get any better, we are pleased to tell you that it is just about to. Enter the Sandfly Film Festival and the two words you’ve been wanting to hear together rooftop cinema. Sandfly started its life three years ago in Jervis Bay and is spreading it’s wings to Newtown and the Blue Mountains this year. The Festival showcases local and international short films including dramas, comedies, documentaries, animations and music videos chosen from an unprecedented number of entries in 2012. An amazing line up of judges will choose this year’s Sandfly winners including renowned Australian singer/songwriter Missy Higgins, last year’s festival winner and animator extraordinaire, Christopher Kezelos and director of Gotye’s smash hit music video “Somebody That I used to Know”, Natasha Pincus.
Not only an extraordinary night of film, Sandfly welcomes to the Rooftop Dappled Cities front man Dave Rennick for a special solo performance. Joining Dave are a select field of fantastic musicians including Mr Grizzly and Jonathon Miller. The night begins at 7pm on Wednesday the 7th of November with entry via (and snacks provided by) Cafe Shenkin Espresso Bar, 239a King Street Newtown.
