The internet has become such a normal part of any kid’s everyday life; social networks, gaming, apps, blogs, photo sharing and being used for research and school work.

Whats-Your-Story_Poster_v1This Week is Stay Smart Online week, a national initiative that aims to educate Australians on how to best protect themselves online. In conjunction with this, Trend Micro, the leader in internet security, is launching a six week competition called What’s Your Story for kids aged 8 – 18 to celebrate the many positive ways they use mobile devices and the internet.

Trend Micro’s competition asks kids to submit a short video (for kids 13 – 18) or a poster (for kids 8 – 12) describing how mobile devices have benefited them. After the 6 weeks of the competition, the public will select the finalists and then a panel of judges from Yahoo!, Twitter and the Australian Department of Communications who will determine the winners. Winners in each age group will receive an iPad Air + $500 cash + Trend Micro Maximum Security. Runner-ups will also receive cool prizes.

Beginning 2 June the ccompetition will be open for 6 weeks, with 2 weeks of public voting and then a panel of judges will select the winners. Depending on age, kids can enter one of two age categories:

8-12 years: Create a poster interpretation of the topic

13+ years  create a video interpretation of the topic
