In 2012, the 32nd Australian Songwriting Contest, conducted by the Australian Songwriter’s Association, attracted over 3,000 entries from original musicians across the nation. The associated National Songwriting Awards night is a fixture on the music industry calendar, and is always a sell-out! And now the event will be broadcast free-to-air and simulcast over the web. The 2012 National Songwriting Awards TV special includes a rare set from special guests “The Atlantics”, Australia’s first internationally successful band who in 1963 released their massive worldwide surf music hit “Bombora”.
The evening’s performances are balanced with the wealth of emerging talent revealed by the National Song Contest category winners. Categories include Rock/Indie, Country, Folk, Instrumental, Pop/Dance, Youth, Spiritual, Ballad and Songs for Children. Additionally each year at the National Songwriting Awards, one of Australia’s best songwriters is inducted into the Australian Songwriters Hall of Fame. This year, celebrity music journalist Glenn A. Baker inducted Don Walker who then plays live with his band. It’s a music industry equivalent of the ARIAs, but showcasing the songwriters.
Many crew and most of the production equipment for this multi camera live shoot were sourced via Metro Screen. Enjoy the results! The 2 hour special television event will feature on TVS (digital 44) on Saturday 6th April from 7:30 p.m.
TVS simulcasts their programs with a web feed which can be accessed via www.tvs.org.au . Click on the “watch tvs now” button in the top right corner.
