Funding for short form content is available through the Metro Screen Breaks Funding program with the generous of Screen Australia and Screen NSW. Applications are open once per year, sign up to the newsletter to be the first to know. Many short films have achieved international screenings and awards with the development, production support and cash funding through the Breaks program.
In 2014 eleven filmmaking teams participated in the Breaks script development hot-house before taking their visions into production for the screen with cash support, production subsidies and expert development workshops.
2013 the Breaks films were featured in festivals and awards locally and internationally including The Dendy Short Film Awards at Sydney International Film Festival, Flickerfest, St Kilda, Palm Springs International Short Fest, The Australian Director’s Guild Awards and the Iris Prize in Wales among others.
Two of the Breaks funded short films from 2012 were selected in the Top 10 finalists of the Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films presented at the Sydney Film Festival.
The 2011 slate of Breaks films traveled far and wide including the Rhode Island Film Festival, Montreal World Film Festival, Cinema des Anipodes – France and many more.
14 short film projects were produced across the Breaks schemes in 2010. Screening highlights included St Kilda Film Festival, ImagineNative – Toronto, Brisbane International Film Festival, Long Island Film Festival, LA Comedy Shorts Fest, Best Indigenous Film – The SBS Television Awards, Best Short Film – BOFA Film Festival, Best Comedy – The WOW Film Festival.
