Working on a new Indigenous television series in Western Sydney
This is an identified position and applicants must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. Being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification as authorised under Section 14 (D) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW). Television Sydney (TVS) is Sydney’s only free-to-air, not-for-profit community broadcast licence holder. TVS is based at the University of Western Sydney (UWS) Werrington South Campus in western Sydney.
TVS is currently working on Indigenous content and has a temporary vacancy for an Indigenous production assistant for 20 weeks, starting in August 2013.
The successful candidate will be an energetic self-starter who will be required to work as part of a small team on a project focussing on Indigenous education. You will be required to work quickly and accurately with minimal supervision.
You will have an interest in television and a passion for television production and documentary making. Some experience in production management would be an advantage.
Good understanding of Indigenous society and cultural issues, and ability to deal with a range of sensitive cross cultural issues.
Sound communication and organisational skills, including excellent telephone skills.
Good research skills.
An understanding of what is required in relation to on-location shooting and organisation of crews.
Good record keeping and problem solving skills.
Flexible arrangements could be arranged for part-time or full-time students.
