Walkley Grants for Innovation in Journalism 2014

By January 24, 2014 Industry News

The Walkley Foundation for Excellence in Journalism will allocate $40,000 to up to three innovative reporting projects with the support of Google, and we are looking at ways to increase the pool of funding. We want to stimulate innovative thinking in journalism and encourage bold ideas for reinventing the way we tell stories and fund reporting.

By allocating seed-funding and providing mentorship and support, we hope to grow enterprising ideas for journalism that will have a lasting positive effect. These projects will pioneer new methods of storytelling and information sharing and successfully engage communities and audiences.

That might mean participatory or interactive elements, incorporating social networking, harnessing crowds of interested citizens to help find and tell stories, or pioneering new mobile connections. It might mean using data to tell stories, or bringing stories to life in a creative new way. From targeted, hyperlocal approaches to sweeping projects that link people on opposite sides of Australia – innovative journalism can be created on any scale.
